Philippine operator ETPI joins NetIX's Global Internet Exchange

The Philippines' first telecoms company expands its connectivity across Southeast Asia and into Europe

Eastern Telecommunications Philippines (ETPI) has joined the Global Internet Exchange (GIX) run by NetIX, a Neterra Group company. The move expands the reach of the Philippines' first telecoms operator across Southeast Asia and into Europe.

ETPI connects to the platform from the Equinix SG1 data centre in Singapore. It starts at 10G and plans to scale the capacity as traffic grows.

Through the GIX, ETPI reaches a global ecosystem of interconnected networks and exchanges traffic more efficiently across regions. This cuts its reliance on costly IP transit, lowers costs, and improves network performance.

The exchange's densely meshed architecture shortens data paths, lowers latency, and strengthens resilience. If a route fails, traffic reroutes automatically, and the service runs without interruption.

The GIX also simplifies ETPI's peering strategy. A single cross-connect and port reach more than 50 Internet Exchanges, so ETPI's engineers manage connectivity more easily and spend less time on administration.

"Our collaboration with NetIX is an important step in developing our network architecture," says Edsel Paglinawan, VP and Chief Revenue & Innovation Officer at Eastern. "Through the GIX we are building direct peering, optimizing routing, and reducing latency across key international corridors. This lets us deliver high-performance, carrier-grade connectivity for data-intensive, latency-sensitive applications."

"We are pleased to welcome ETPI to the NetIX ecosystem," says Dean Belev, VP of Connectivity at NetIX. "It is a pleasure to support their first steps in peering, and we look forward to seeing them grow alongside the platform."
