NetIX, Neterra's global peering platform, now connects networks to more than 60 Internet Exchanges worldwide through a single connection. The service is called Global Internet Exchange (GIX).
Internet Exchanges (IXPs) are where networks hand traffic to each other directly instead of paying a transit provider to carry it. The more exchanges a network reaches, the faster and cheaper content loads for its end users.
The hard part is connecting. To join 60 exchanges the usual way, a network signs 60 contracts, pays 60 membership fees, orders 60 cross-connects across different data centers and deals with 60 separate teams in dozens of countries and time zones.
GIX replaces all of that with one connection. A network connects at any of NetIX's 220+ locations and reaches more than 60 exchanges through one port, one cross-connect, and one membership. The 200+ GIX members also exchange traffic directly with each other, saving transit connections and ports.
Singapore Internet Exchange (SGIX) joined GIX over the summer, giving the service denser coverage across Asia Pacific.
