The system records values of defined parameters and displays them in a user-friendly way as interactive graphic and table reports with various display and record options. The software solution enables network operators and service providers to improve performance and producitvity and reduce the total costs of network Operation, Administration and Mainenance. Recently Triaton, Germany chose the NOMS as its main network management system.
NOMS communicates with devices using the manufacturer provided Monitoring&Control (M&C)interface specifications and protocols. NOMS supports SNMP, RS232, RS485, RS422 interfaces and the following communication protocols and message formats: SAbus, Radyne Link Level Protocol, Fairchild M&C message format, EFData M&C message format.
Unlimited number of device categories (modems, transceivers, routers, etc) and device parameter categories (EbN0, CBER, RBER, Mbps, etc) could be defined by the administrator. The flexible web interface includes table reports and interactive graphic reports (implemented as Java applet). These can be used to analyse the processes in the monitored devices.
The system allows different levels of user access. The flexible administrator interface is used to create and modify reports about devices and user-level access permissions for a given report.
The web-based system allows to be monitored from anywhere in Internet in real-time.
Data collecting is done automatically via TCP/IP socket over a specified application protocol. Data storage and manipulation is performed by external RDBMS (MySQL) connected to TOMS via TCP (jdbc). This ensures separation data from programs, effectively making NOMS a multi-layer system with easy-to-upgrade capabilities.
