BIX.BG - The first Bulgarian Internet Exchange Point chose Neterra's "Sofia Data Center"

BIX.BG is the first interconnection point of ISPs in Bulgaria. These interconneciton points are known worldwide as Internet eXchange Point (IXP). Up to this moment no such place existed in Bulgaria and telecom companies interconnected to each other on the principle "everyone to everyone". Now they can easily exchange traffic with each other through a single connection to BIX.BG, thereby saving significant costs for cables and equipment.

In the beginning of October 2009 BIX.BG placed their equipment in Neterra's new colocation center, Sofia Data Center, a top class facility, build according to the latest world standards. By the end of the October Neterra and BIX.BG agreed to provide free interconnections to all interested companies. The only requirement for them is to build a connection to "Sofia Data Center" or „Sofia Teleport".

Some of the biggest international telecom operators such as British Telecom, Level 3, Telecom Austria, Verizon, GTS and others have already installed equipment in Neterra's colocation centers. One of the main reasons for BIX.BG to choose Neterra as a partner for this project is the fact that practically all Bulgarian cable operators are present in one of the company's data centers.

ISPs who do not have their own infrastructure can connect to BIX.BG through Neterra's national network that covers 38 cities in Bulgaria. The network is built according to the latest industry standards, using DWDM and MPLS technology. Further, the ring topology of the network ensures high reliability and full redundancy of the offered services. Neterra is the largest alternative telecommunications company in Bulgaria and provides one third of Internet traffic in the country.
